Kitchens, back-of-house corridors, stockrooms and processing areas take a beating. Staff push through with carts, trays and full hands dozens of times an hour, and the doors in those openings are expected to swing both ways, close on their own and still look good after years of daily cleaning. Special-Lite designed its Double-Acting Traffic Doors for exactly that kind of opening.

What sets them apart

Special-Lite launched the line in 2024, building on the same foam-injected FRP technology behind its well-known SL-17 doors and its bathroom partitions. The result is a slim, lightweight door that is built to last.

  • Foam-injected core. Closed-cell foam fills the panel, giving it strong resistance to moisture and corrosion while keeping it light enough to push open with a shoulder or a cart.
  • Integral aluminum perimeter. The aluminum edge protects the door from impacts and gives it a solid yet flexible structure that outlasts doors built with passive fillers such as honeycomb.
  • Stainless steel gravity pivot hinge. Special-Lite’s own double-acting hinge lets the door swing in both directions and return smoothly to centre under its own weight. No springs to adjust or replace.

Faces and finishes

The doors are available with three types of faces, so the back of house can look as finished as the front.

  • Hybrid FRP: Pebble Grain texture in Special-Lite’s exclusive SpecLite3 FRP, Rustic Wood Grain, Contemporary Wood Grain and Sandstone. Easy to clean and sanitize.
  • Aluminum: embossed (0.055″ face sheet), smooth or fluted.
  • Stainless steel.
