In nearly every high-end project there’s a moment where the architect wants a door to stop looking like a door. A walnut wall that runs uninterrupted. A mirrored plane in a lobby. A marble panel that continues from one room into the next. The drawing is simple. The hardware is not.
That’s the problem the Simonswerk TECTUS TE 540 3D A8 was built to solve.
The idea
TECTUS hinges are fully concealed. With the door closed, no hardware is visible. The A8 version goes a step further. It’s engineered for doors that receive an add-on cladding layer of up to 8 mm (0.315″) on both faces, whether wood veneer, laminate, mirror or thin stone.
That means the leaf can be finished in the same material as the adjacent wall, across its full thickness, with the hinge still invisible. The door reads as wall.

The range carries CE, UL and UL Canada certification, and covers burglar, fire, smoke and sound resistance requirements.
What to watch when specifying
Leaf thickness is measured bare. The 40 mm minimum is before cladding. A 40 mm leaf with 8 mm each side yields a 56 mm assembly. Confirm this with the door manufacturer early.
3D adjustment happens after installation. Side, height and compression all adjust without removing the leaf. That’s a real advantage on heavy doors and on sites where cladding arrives late in the sequence.
Fire-rated doors: check with the door manufacturer regarding additional intumescent material requirements.
Without cladding: cover plates are available on request for unclad doors, as are square-corner cover plates.
Energy transfer: a TE 540 3D A8 Energy version provides continuous power transfer through the hinge. Useful for electrified locks, access control or position switches, with no visible door loop.
The short version
The A8 isn’t a higher-performing hinge than the rest of the TECTUS line. Same mechanics, different geometry, cut for cladding. If your detail calls for a flush door finished like the wall, this is the version to specify.
